Stonecutter's Cottage

Stony seaboard, far and foreign
Stony hills poured over space,
Stony outcrop of the Burren,
Stones in every fertile place ...
From "Ireland with Emily" (Sir John Betjeman)

Stonecutter’s Cottage …… takes you back in time

About Stonecutter’s Cottage         Sleeps 2-4
Stonecutter’s Cottage is one of a row of four terrace-cottages. Today these cottages are the only reminder of what was once a thriving quarry village. The cottage was built in the post-famine style about 150 years ago for one of the quarry foreman (and his family and animals).

We completely restored the cottage when we bought it in 2001, keeping its original local-stone walls and traditional fireplace. The roof of the cottage is also constructed out of the stone from the quarry. We recommend a visit to the Liscannor Rock Shop which houses a small museum and photo archive of the history of the quarry and the village.

The pine-fitted kitchen is furnished with 19th century antique pine country kitchen table, bench and dresser. Antique pine chairs and wardrobes in the living room and bedroom recreate the rustic life that once was. The lounge has a traditional wood-burning stove that will make you so cozy in the evenings that you’ll never want to leave your spot.

We have tried to blend an authentic restoration with all the modern conveniences (like Central Heating) to ensure a dwelling of warmth, comfort and Celtic charm.
